Krimml Waterfalls No 2
2024, pencil on colored paper, 29,5 x 21 cm
The “Drawings from Nature” section consists of two series.
The first continues the Alpine landscapes, while the second presents sketches from Northern Europe — Norway, Germany, and Estonia — primarily from areas west of Tallinn, including Vääna-Jõesuu, Viti, and Keila-Joa.
I first encountered real mountains as a child in Kyrgyzstan in 1981. It was Peak Korona, rising 4,860 metres above sea level, located in the Ala-Archa gorge (Tian Shan), about 40–50 km from the former Frunze. This was the most vivid impression not only of landscape, but of everything I had seen in my childhood. From that moment on, the desire to see mountains again never left me. This childhood dream was realised in 2009, when my encounter with the Alps began — specifically with the Austrian Alps.
The Krimml Waterfalls (Ger. Krimmler Wasserfälle) are located on the Krimmler Ache River, a tributary of the Salzach in Austria. They form one of the highest waterfall systems in Europe.

Flims is a municipality in Switzerland, in the canton of Graubünden. The preparatory drawings were made on site in 2022. It was in Flims that I returned to drawing after a break of almost ten years.
